Geocaches #308 & #309 on 4/10/11

Geocache #308
Veteran's Bridge

In Kelseyville we stopped and found our next cache, a pretty common type of hide in the guardrail of the 'Veteran Bridge' there.

So it was a quick stop and cache!!  Small container took nada, left a piggy eraser and STL.

Geocache #309
VGR2- Pluto
I found it!!

Continuing around the lake on Hwy 29 we came to a pullout in the  road that someone had placed a cache near.  GPS was iffy, cell reception almost non-extinct, and my iPhone battery almost gone.  We were trying to use Carrie's phone, but it was soooooooooooo slooooooooooooooooow.

Finally, was able to get to the decription/hint and logs.  Once we had that information the find was made pretty quickly by Carrie yet again!!

Sign
base of bush
The hint:  Base of bush and aligned with top of sign helped a lot!!!

Cache was a bit low on SWAG so I decided not to take anything, left an angel pin and signed the log!!

Geocache #307 on 4/10/11

Our next stop took us to the edge of Kelseyville and an old cemetery.

Geocache #307
Kelsey Pioneers

The description stated that we didn't have to go into the cemetery to get the cache.  Well. . . . . .the cache wasn't in the cemetery, but some fallen trees were blocking the path around the cemetery so we did have to step in it briefly to get around the fallen debri.

Otherwise GPS was right on, surprisingly, as there were so many trees around.

Carrie found it -- a nice size ammo can!!  SWAG was plentiful.  I took a small matchbox car, left the 'Ump' Travel Bug and STL.

What a beautiful resting place for those pioneers!!

Geocache #305 -- 4/10/11

So we continued a little further around the lake -- no we didn't get all the caches in Lakeport, but we did want to make it all the way around the lake before it got too late and too dark to cache.  Although Candace and I have been known to be out caching in the dark using just the headlights of the car as our light -- granted it's not the easiest thing to do!!

Our next stop was called:

Geocache #305
Trollville

Once Carrie climbed under the edge of the bridge, we then knew why they called it 'Trollville'.  Believe me it was not an easy brdige to climb under, if it hadn't been for Carrie being there I am not so sure that either Alycia or I would have even tried to get the cache.

Loggerhead Turtle
Small little box of SWAG that I swapped a domino, left a Travel Coin that I had been carrying the 'Loggerhead Turtle Geocoin' thought it was an appropriate place to be dropping a turtle coin, and STL.

4/10/11 - Geocaching around Clear Lake --Geocache #304

Just a little further down the road in Lakeport we found our next cache -- mind you I had been out here twice before with no luck!!!  Sometimes you just have to think 'outside the box'

Geocache #304
Trucks (no planes) & Automobiles

I knew where to gofor this one as I had been there looking teice before with no luck -- but I knew that the cache was there as I kept seeing that others were finding it and logginf their finds on geocaching.com

After looking a bit, I think that Alycia actually figured out where the cache was, but Carrie made the actual grab.  Like I said before, sometimes you have to think 'out of the box'

There wasn't a whole lot of SWAG and from reading the description it was suppose to be trucks and automobile themed -- at least, maybe when the cache was originally placed it might have been!!  LOL!!

I took nada, but left a magnet and signed the log -- Carrie laughed as she put a little parachuter guy in and said  'There's no plane cause he lost his when he jumped.'  We all had a good laugh at that one.

Catching up on my Geocaching!! Geocache #303

Geocache #303
Jack's Place

I need to catch up on my geocaching - left you off on Alycia, Carrie, Danielle and my geocaching around Clear Lake back on December 10th.

After lunch we headed to the other end of Lakeport and caught a couple of geocaches - this was our first one after lunch.

Can you guess where the GPS lead us?  With a name like 'Jack's Place'?  Hmmmmm. . . . I'm sure you guessed it!!  Lakeport's Jack-in-the-Box or the back parking lot of it!!

Another one that Carrie made the find pretty much before anyone could get to searching!!  I, always seem to go in the opposite direction of the cache!!  Or, at least, in this case to the wrong pile of rocks!!

Nice size container with plenty of SWAG took a bug, left a magnet and STL.

Geocaches #300, #301 & #302 Lakeport, CA

I know this can get confusing -- I haven't been too good about keeping up to date on my geocaching!!  Hoping to remedy that over the next few days, although it is quite a few to catch  up on!!  LOL!!

If you remember a few blogs back -- the geocaching part of the blogs that is -- Last month Alycia, Carrie, Danielle and I decided to do a geocaching day around Clear Lake while Trish was out of town visiting her sister!!

This cache was truly the actual first one on that trip around the lake --we drove by a few caches prior to hitting our real first one by the lake--but we will catch those on another trip.  Guess I just didn't have my gear in order soon enough for Alycia to stop in time or they were on the other side of the road!!  Highway 29 into Lakeport is two separate roads!!

So our first stop ended us up in Lakeport where we, actually, found 5 caches!!  We, also, did a quick potty and lunch stop at KFC!!
Carrie and Danielle busy texting during the break!!
Not sure who either of them were resting so diligently, but it kept them busy most of the day!!
Cache #300
No Music Radio

GPS co-ords took us to the backlot of a small business -- I think when this geocache was placed it used to be a 'Radioshack', but not anymore!!  Thus the reference in the name!!

I know that last year I had made a trip to Lakeport as Mae, Cody's girlfriend, was living there and I was dropping him off to see her and then I made the most of my drive back home by geocaching.  This was one that I had looked for, but couldn't seem to find then.

Carrie returning the cache
We were headed towards another 'no find this time' as there wasn't a whole lot of places to look, when I finally made the find!  I couldn't believe that we almost overlooked it -- again!!

Some nice SWAG --left an angel pin as the container isn't that big and took the frog in a raincoat, to make more space for SWAG!!
Geocache #301
Bowling Anyone?

So onto the next one. You guessed it!!  At the back of the Lakeport Bowling Alley!!  At the head of trail leading down towards the river!  Yet another one that I had looked for last year and tried to make too hard!!  Carrie spotted it as soon as she got out of the car and headed towards it!!  I am sure I was up and down and all over that trail last year!!
For such a small re-used container we were surprised what SWAG we found in it!! Took one of the dominoes and left an angel pin!!
Geocache #302
The Look Out

Yep we were a rolling . . . and on to the next one!!

This one took us up above the fast food court in Lakeport!!  Guess that would be a good name - the look out spot!!  LOL!!  Probably what decided on our lunch stop break too!!  That and the fact that it was after one in the afternoon!
This is yet another that I had looked for, but I was using a different GPS device then, obviously, not that good cause with my iphone it took us directly to the 'Look Out' I never even made it that far with my last GPS.  It then just became a chance of the luck -- who was going to head in the right direction around that large bush and find it first!!
Well Carrie was the lucky one!!  Just the luck of the draw I went one way she went the other!!
For a bigger container than the last, there wasn't that much SWAG, I took a little plastic frog and left an angel pin!!

Geocache #299 - Ukiah, CA -- 4/10/11

After getting back home from Colorado Alycia, Carrie, Danielly and I decided to go geocaching since Trish was out of town visiting her sister for our Sunday girly get-together.

We decided to geocache around the Clear Lake.

On the way we decided to try and get a couple of geocaches a little closer to home . . . after all they were on the way!!

The first was a newly placed cache that we, unfortunately, didn't have any luck in finding -- hope this wasn't how our day was going to go!!!  Although Alycia fif find the nearby vineyards facinating!! Although there are plenty of vineyards locally as we are in California wine country!!  Hopefully we'llfind it next time!!

Geocache #299
Uva Gotta Find this Cache

A little further down the road we stopped to find another local cache.

It was a cache placed on a private drive with the owner's permision -- I think the cache owner was the property owner -- in the decription they had stated that it was placed by permision and that 'friendly cacher's wer welcome
Before the rest of us were even out of the car -- Carrie found the cache -- gonna have to drill into her head that us old foggies want pictures of the placement before she moves it!! We, also, got a lot of 'butt' shots of her as we were trying to get those pictures before she moved the cache!!!

Lots of 'kid friendly' SWAG.  Alycia and Danielle had fun sorting through it finding just the right stuff to take.

Geocache #295 - Found 4/5/11 in Colorado Springs

So the plan was that I was to drive my daughter's car to the Springs, she had driven in with her husband who had dropped her off in fountain on his way to work at the base.  I would then visit with my son and his girlfriend if she wasn't working and then I would pick Candace up from work and we would drive back to Pueblo together!!

I spent a wonderful afternoon with my son.  We went to lunch and then he took me back to his place and showed me what he has been working on musically.  Here is a picture of the guitar he had made with his father and grandfather while he was visiting California at Christmas time.  He, also, played me some of the tunes he has been working on.  Did I mention that my son is very musically inclined, he has been writing his own music for a few years now.  I wish he couldget it published -- maybe one of these days!!

Carleen, his girlfriend, met us at his place.  We then headed out to meet her former boss who was responsible for opening up a new satelite college in fountain and wanted to show her the facility.  She is hoping to get hired on there.  We got there before he did and while we were waiting we decided to see if there were any close caches.  My GPS said that there was one right in the parking lot that we were sitting in.  But when we went to look we found nada.  After reading a few of the recent logs, it looks like this cache is MIA.

Geocache# 295
Front Range Washout

We still had some time to kill so we went to the next closest cache just a few blocks down the road. We did have to get out of the car and walk a little ways, but it was a nice paved trail and we didn't have to walk too far.  Aong the way Carleen picked up a fancy paper clip and pocketed it.  Turned out that the cache was big enough that we ended up putting the paper clip in with the rest of the SWAG.

While we were trying to cover things back up so that it looked more natural a couple walked by walking their dog.  Since we had been taking pictures of the site Carleen and Chris stood up and said loudly, 'Hey mom, can you take our picture'  good cover for our blundering!!

Chris and Carleen
Afterwards we headed back to meet Carleen's former boss.  He was even aware of what geocaching was and was surprised that there was supose to be one in his parking lot!!

We then headed over to find where Candace worked, again getting there with plenty of time to spare - we tried to find a nearby cache, but alas it is still there to find another day!!

Geocache #277 and Dinner at Simona's

After finding the last cache I decided to cactch a few more in the area so headed out to the 'Blue Eyes' Cache.

In a nice hole in the rocks!

Can you tell where the cache is?

After parking just past the GPS co-ordinates I started back to Ground Zero and saw a couple of deer in the middle of the road -- too bad I wasn't able to get my camera out fast enought to get pics of them.  I then looked around and following the clues/hints decided that I needed to get to the top of a small fenced in mound and that the cache was probably on the other side of the fenced in area -- no not inside the fenced area as that is against geocaching guidelines.  Found an easy path up and around and walked right to the cache at the top of a slide of rocks!!
nice size cache and lots of SWAG!

Took a green plastic dinosaur and left an angel pin.

As I was logging the find in my book and via my iphone at geocaching.com I recieved a call from a really good friend of mine wanting to head out to dinner at Simona's.

Ok, so maybe I wasn't all that dressed up, but I couldn't resist a dinner out at Simona's.

After dinner we went to visit another friend, back when I was taking  dance classes, who now owned the 7-11 Club and had a couple of drinks and socialized with the pool players there.

Not a bad night for a Monday night!!
