Newest Project - Knitted baby hats

My newest campaign is to have made for every baby born at the hospital that I work at 'hats'. Oh, by the way I work in the OB (obstetric) dept here.

This past week I made a good start by knitting 4 of the green hats shown, and with the smallest loop of a 'knit-in-the-round' 2 of the peach colored hats.

Anyone is welcome to join me in my endeavor. The 'knit-in-the-round' hats are made with worsted weight yarn - any color.

I had a hard time finding a good pattern for the knitted hats so ended up making my own pattern. I hate seams so I used double pointed needles.

I have never made a pattern before and am sure there are lots of mistakes in the writing of it. But I have no plans to patent it and just needed a pattern to follow (have almost talked a few of my co-workers into helping with this project).

Here is my pattern:

Sport or baby weight yarn
size 9 double pointed needles

Cast on 44 stitches 15 each on 2 needles and 14 on the last.
K1, P1 around for 8 rows.
K around for 12 rows.
*Per needle: K2 tog, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, K2 tog for 1 row.
K around times 2 rows.*
Repeat from * to * 1 moe tim. (11 stitches on each of 2 needles and 10 stitches on 3rd)
Next round: K 2 tog, K across to last 2 stitches on needles, K2 tog for the 2 needles with 9 stitches each, on last needle K2 tog, K across. (9 stitches per needle)
*Per needle: K2 tog, K across to last 2 stitches, K2 tog. *
Repeat from * to * till 3 stitches on each needle.
Per needle: K2 tog, K 1. (2 stitches per needle)
Per needle: K2 tog all onto 1 needle. (3 stitches)
draw loop up and pull through all loops on needle.
Tie off and pull end of yarn down through center and anchor.

Hope this is clear as MUD!! Enjoy!

Email me for address to send any hats too!!
